The Medical School and the Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) have announced a clinical training partnership, which allows students from the St George’s, University of London medical programme at the University of Nicosia to complete the final two years of their degree at ACGME-approved hospitals in the US territory of Puerto Rico. This development is the first outcome of a broad agreement signed last month between the Medical School and PHSU to promote academic cooperation and research collaboration between the two institutions. PHSU works with ACGME-approved hospitals including Hospital Damas, Hospital Episcopal San Lucas Ponce, La Concepcion Hospital, Mayaguez Medical Center, Bella Vista Hospital and PHSU’s Multi-Medical Clinic.  Collectively, the ACGME-approved specialities include Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Family Medicine, Psychiatry and Surgery. Together, these hospitals employ over 3,500 professionals and have available over 1,000 beds. PHSU joins the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, USA, the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv, Israel, and the Nicosia General Hospital in Cyprus as clinical training sites for the Medical School.  Students from the St George’s, University of London medical programme at the University of Nicosia will begin clinical rotations at PHSU in August 2015.
