Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish delivered an inspiring and passionate speech to students, faculty and staff of the Medical School.  He described how his life changed on January 16, 2009 when Israeli shells hit his home in the Gaza strip, killing three of his daughters and a niece.  The Palestinian doctor, who at the time of the attack practiced OB/Gyn at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv (one of our affiliated teaching hospitals), did not seek revenge for the loss.  Instead, he responded by calling for dialogue in the Middle East.  Dr Abuelaish also spoke of the challenges and joys of a medical career, and answered questions from the audience ranging from the role of education in eradicating poverty to his vision for peace in the region.
