The Medical School, in association with the Cyprus Obstetric and Gynaecological Society and the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital, organised a clinical workshop on obstetric emergencies on 23 January in Nicosia.   Three Medical School faculty conducted the workshop: Prof Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, Founding Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBGYN);  Dr Gabriel Kalakoutis, Professor and Curriculum Lead in OBGYN; and Dr Savvas Argyrides, Honorary Assistant Professor and Clinical Lead in OBGYN.  More than 50 health professionals including OBGYN consultants, trainees and midwives as well as a number of medical students participated in the workshop.

Two groups of our medical students presented the results of their case studies at the workshop.  Their retrospective analyses were : “Trends in operative deliveries at Archbishop Makarios III Hospital for the past 15 years” [abstract] by Caroline McBurney, Gerasimos Christakis, Jaskiran Dulai and Michael Hadjihari, and “Epidemiological features and complications of pre-eclampsia”[abstract] by Michel Al Hilani, Xavier Chalhoub, Rima El-Atrache, Hassan Hamze and Muhieddine Itani.
